The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu – Gameplay Trailer

Written by moza

Bright Suns!  We’ve just got one week to go until the new The Sims 4 game pack lands, and today we’ve got a gameplay trailer, and more information about the denizens of the Black Spire Outpost.

First things first, the overall storyline in the trailer confirms that this is a destination, not a world to live in.  Our heroine travels to Batuu looking for adventure on a number of occasions, before returning home with her new droid and antiquities.

So, what can you do in Batuu?  Well!  We’ve already heard about Oga’s Cantina – and you can catch up with DJ-R3X in the cantina for local knowledge.  You have the choice of joining 3 different groups – the Rebel Alliance and the First Order are battling it out as usual, and the Scoundrels, as you may expect, are basically playing both sides!  Pick a side, carry out missions, and earn credits and reputation.  How you behave on Batuu, the side you pick and the missions you pass and fail will have an impact on the Outpost overall.  If you saw my post comparing in game Batuu to Galaxy’s Edge in parks, this is similar to how they were promoted at launch, although I’m not sure if the reputation system has worked as well as hoped.  This seems to be taking it to the next level – which I guess is easier when it’s not relying on multiple people playing!

The trailer also gives as a closer look at the main characters from each group – Rey and Kylo Ren will be familiar to anyone who’s seen the latest movies, while Hondo Ohnaka, who represent the Scoundrels is better known from the Clone Wars and Rebels animated series.

You get a peek at building lightsabers, and a little bit more about building droids and introducing the super cute BB-QD, as well as an idea what the missions might entail.

We get a quick – very quick – flash through options available in CAS, including what appears to be Jedi robes, storm trooper armour and more local styles.  Couldn’t spot Vi’s two-tone hair, but I’m hopeful!

One thing they showed was a Sim drinking Blue Milk.  Yes, that’s available for real, it’s plant based, not dairy, and, well, let’s say it’s an acquired taste and leave it there!  I’ve also seen mention of Ronto Wraps, and Fried Endorian Tip Yip.  Both of those are available in Galaxy’s Edge, and I’m hoping that the Sims version will also include the droid-powered roaster found in Ronto Roasters.  Want to try Fried Endorian Tip Yip while you wait?  There’s a Galaxy’s Edge cookbook, and the Tip Yip recipe can be found here. I have it on good authority, it tastes like chicken!

I know that this pack hasn’t been the best received in the community – we’ve got our own fair share of First Order, Rebels and Scoundrels already – but the more I see, the more I can’t wait to get my hands on it.  Does that make me a member of the First Order or a Rebel?
