Sandwiches are a mainstay of lunches not just for Sims, but also in a large portion of the real world.
Legend has it that the sandwich was invented in the 18th century by John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, when he requested that his valet bring him meat tucked into bread so that he would not have to stop playing cards long enough to eat. Other gentlemen saw him doing so and began ordering “the same as Sandwichâ€, and the name caught on from there. Other records of Lord Sandwich would indicate that he was kept very busy by his commitments to the Royal Navy, and it is therefore likely that he ordered bread and meat to be brought to him so that he could eat at his desk while he worked. I’m sure many of us can relate!
In reality, the sandwich, in one form or another, has been around since people began making bread. There are records of meat being placed in flatbread for consumption that date as far back as 2000 years, but it was Lord Sandwich who gave the construction the name that we know and love today.
Sandwiches are not simply bread and meat, of course. They range from the basic to the gourmet. Sim sandwiches are much the same. There are four different sandwiches in Sims games, ranging from the oh so basic lunch meat sandwich that every Sims 2 legacy founder lived on until they could afford a stove, to the fried Peanut Butter and Banana sandwich that needs level five cooking skill to even attempt.

If you’ve watched Sims make this sandwich you know it’s a bologna and mustard sandwich. In reality, though, a lunch meat sandwich is limited only by your imagination.
Some ideas to try:
Use pesto or hummus as a spread instead of the usual mayo or mustard
Try a different filling – sliced salami is a lunch meat too!
Add veggies or even fruit. Thinly sliced tart apples pair well with brie cheese or turkey.

Grilled Cheese

This recipe has its own aspiration in Sims 2 – the Grilled Cheese Aspiration – which was a possible side effect of using the ReNuYuSenso Orb that came with Night Life. If a Sim used the orb when their Aspiration Level was below gold, the machine could malfunction and give the Sim the Grilled Cheese aspiration. All their wants and fears were centered around grilled cheese sandwiches.
After seeing some of the possibilities for grilled cheese sandwiches out there, I begin to see why Sims might obsess! This is another recipe that is really only limited by imagination.
The basic recipe:
- Two slices white bread
- One slice cheddar cheese
- One tablespoon butter, divided in half
Directions
- Preheat skillet over medium heat.
- Generously butter one side of a slice of bread.
- Place bread butter-side-down onto skillet bottom and add 1 slice of cheese.
- Butter a second slice of bread on one side and place butter-side-up on top of sandwich.
- Grill until lightly browned and flip over; continue grilling until cheese is melted.

But this certainly isn’t the only way to have a grilled cheese! Some recipes call for ham or streaky bacon as well as cheese, but that’s not all!
Some ideas to try:
Use mozzarella and pepperoni or mushrooms to make a pizza-style grilled cheese.
Ingredients
- 4 slices bread
- butter
- 4 slices mozzarella
- pepperoni (cut in half or mini)
- italian seasoning or basil
- parmesan cheese (opt)
- pizza sauce (for dipping)
Directions
- *Warm a medium/large skillet over medium heat. Butter each piece of bread on one side.
- When skillet is hot place a piece of bread butter side down on the skillet then add one slice of cheese and small shake of Italian seasoning or basil (add a small shake of parmesan cheese here too if desired).
- Top with a desired amount of pepperonis (I used about 8 -10 whole regular pepperonis per sandwich) If any other toppings are desired, add now. Add another slice of mozzarella and top with slice bread butter side up.
- Repeat with second sandwich. When bottom slice is golden brown then flip over carefully. Once both sides are brown remove from pan cut and serve with pizza sauce if desired.

The fried peanut butter and banana sandwich is known in parts of the Southeastern United States as an “Elvisâ€, due to the fact that the sandwich was a favorite of Elvis Presley. Some accounts say he liked honey and bacon on the sandwiches as well, but the most common variant of the sandwich is as follows:
Elvis Presley’s Grilled Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwich
Ingredients
- 2 slices of white bread
- 2 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter
- 1 small ripe banana mashed
- 2 tablespoons butter
Directions
- Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread and the mashed banana on the other.
- Press the slices gently together.
- Melt the butter (or to be truly Elvis-like, melt bacon fat!), over low heat in a small frying pan.
- Place the sandwich in the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Eat it with a glass of buttermilk.
Please note: Elvis tended to eat 12-15 sandwiches a sitting! So belly up!
