Today my cold little GenX heart is just a little warmer because I got to take a trip down memory lane to the 90s and the 2000s (those were only like ten years ago, right?) with these two kits – Clueless Capsule and Mean Girls Capsule. Let’s have a look, shall we?
Both of these kits are primarily CAS kits, heavily focussed on clothing. There are a few accessories and a few buy mode items, but no hairs and no traits or anything like that. However, what is here is, in my opinion, very nice. Let’s start with the Mean Girls Capsule Kit. We have five tops, four bottoms, two full-body outfits, one hat, and one necklace accessory:
If you’ve seen the 2004 movie Mean Girls you’ll recognize a lot of this clothing, including a top inspired by Regina George’s white shirt with the holes cut out of it. I’m not sure my sims will be wearing that particular look much, but the other colours of the shirt are great, so it will definitely be getting use. My favourite item, though, is the bootcut jeans in a good variety of colours. My Sims, both male and female, will be getting a whole lot of use out of those trousers.
Next we have a couple of Buy Mode items, a wall hanging and a miscellaneous decoration:
I truly appreciate the fact that the wall hanging is only one item in the catalogue, but the different recolours make it be effectively ten different items. My teens and uni students will get some good use out of quite a few of these. I may also add some of them to my Copperdale high school building. The decoration is the iconic Burn Book from the movie. I was a little disappointed to see that it’s simply a decoration, not something that Sims can interact with. But it totally has the teen vibe, so some of my teen sims will be getting it as decor in their rooms.
Now, on to the Clueless Capsule Kit:
Clueless came out in 1995, and I was a young adult at that point in time, so the looks in this kit are also near and dear to my heart. We have one bottom (a skirt), four tops, six full-body outfits, one hat, and one accessory (a pair of over the knee stockings)
As the movie is centred on teenaged girls, the CAS items in this kit do tend to lean towards more feminine looks, with dresses and skirts and such. Some of the tops do look just lovely on male Sims, though, including the jacket/backpack combo and the sweater/jumper that has some really colourful striped patterns. Overall that, I think, is a real strength of this pack. It’s not afraid of colour. There are a lot of patterns and vibrant colours in this pack, and I am very happy to see it. My Sims will definitely be putting these items to use.
Next we have just a couple of buy mode items – a set of fancy shopping bags in various colours and a miscellaneous decor item :
The decor item is, again, strictly decorative, even though it is a – and believe me it was painful for me to type this – retro cell phone. But it will look good in my teen Sim bedrooms.
In conclusion, these packs are a pretty solid addition to CAS, at least for more feminine-dressing Sims, and there are a few things for the masculine Sims as well. I personally am very pleased to see that the Sims team, with the release of these packs, seems to recognize that it’s not just young people who play The Sims. Quite a few Millennials and GenXers play as well.
As for buy mode, not a lot, but there’s a bit. The wall hangings in the Mean Girls Kit are really quite nice.
Whether these packs are worth the money is something that only you can decide, but I personally am happy to have these items in my game.
