Patches The Sims 4 The Sims 4 Console

The Sims 4 – July 2022 base game update

Written by Annabelli_22

First, we would like to thank The EA Creators Network for the opportunity to gather this information for you.

When a new The Sims 4 pack releases, we usually get a base game update as well. And for Expansion packs in particular, they are usually bigger than for the smaller packs.
The Sims 4 High School Years will bring quite a few features to base game!

We expect these updates to come to everyone’s game on Tuesday 26th of July, around 6pm UK time. But this is an estimated guess on our end, so subject to change.

Curved walls

let’s start off with the big one shall we? Curved/round walls!
With this pack we can finally do what we could do with fences since the start, and with platforms since their introductions.
There are 3 different sizes of the curve. The same 3 sizes we have for curved fences.

Now, what does this mean for doors and windows, will we be able to place any on/in them? Yes we can.
The build/buy UI will be updated so you can filter which windows and which doors will fit a certain curve (the larger curve will have more options than the smaller one). But the frames will not actually CURVE with the wall. It’ll be a straight door or window in the wall, and those ones are selected to have minimal edges sticking out.
There is 1 exception, the new The Sims 4 High School Years window, that one will adjust the curve of the glass to the wall.
The team might look into adding more windows and doors for this, and new packs they will keep the curved walls in mind as well, but on release of the curved walls, that’s the status.

what about wall items, like paintings and shelves. Well, same rule applies for those. Most items you will not be able to hang on curved walls. With a few exceptions, the smaller the item the more likely it will fit.
But you will always be able to overrule this with Move Objects On. Just keep in mind that clipping is possible if you do that.

Sexual Orientation

This one is quite exciting, to me at least. Sexual orientation will be a thing in The Sims 4.
Previously all Sims had no real preference and would flirt, romance or woohoo with anyone you would direct them to. And even if you don’t direct them, some Sims were just flirty on their own.
But no more. Or actually, still, but you can now change it.
The default setting will remain as it has always been, Sims having no real preference on gender. But you can change this, and with The Sims 4 High School Years, some Sims in Copperdale, have already been set with preferences.

You can choose from:

  • This Sim is romantically attracted to:
    Men and/or Women (or neither)
  • This Sim is exploring romantically:
Yes/No (this means that even if you have selected one, all or none of the options in the first question, Sims can still romance and basically experiment and find out what they like)
  • This Sim is interested in Woohoo (or mess around with, for teens) with:
    Men and/or Women (or neither).

These settings can be set and changed at any time, from Teens to Elder.

So you can now make true lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, aromantic Sims and probably more options if you have the settings in the correct way.
You can set up a Sim that is not interested in romance, but is interested in romantic intimacy. But how do you do that? Woohoo without developing a romantic relationship with a Sim, that was not possible before.
But they added a new feature, to be woohoo partners (basically friends with benefits).
If you do not want to think about it, and have Sims behave as they always have, then don’t change the settings and it will remain as is.

This is the first version they added in the game, but the team specifies that this is not the end of the line, they will continue to develop this further to expand on these topics.

Body hair

Body hair is another long awaited update. With The Sims 4 High School Years, Sims will be able to grow body hair and shave. For the base game, body hair will NOT grow, and is just applied in CAS. Sims will also not be able to shave with just base game. You will need the new expansion pack for those features.
But body hair in itself will come to everyone!

Wants and fears

Wants and fears are (coming) back!
There are 3 different type of wants. 1 longer term want, 1 short term want, and 1 want that is reactionary to the location or activity you’re doing. For example, if you are at a gym, your want can be to work out.
Fears are also related to your Sim’s personality, a goal driven Sim might be afraid to fail, perhaps school.
you can decide to conquer your fear, or live with your fear.
Fears show up in the trait panel, as well as show near your Sims profile, and wants show up instead of whims now.
