The Sims has published a new post talking a little more about the upcoming furry additions to our Sims’ households. It seems the new pets will have their own personalities and not be able to be micromanaged.
Per the article:
We didn’t want players micro-managing their dogs and cats. That seemed to remove their soul when we experimented with it, but also removed some of the surprise and delight of dog ownership.
We won’t be able to control Cats and Dogs, why was explained in this blog. I actually really like this idea. This is one of the reasons I preferred Sims 2 pets over Sims 3 pets. You could only direct them with your sims, not directly control them, so they felt more like real life pets. Or, as Grant puts it in the article, “Sims for your Sims.”
It’s my hope that the cats and dogs in game will have their quirks and foibles, just like real pets do. For example, one of my cats is very insistent that someone be in the room with her when she eats her food. We call it “giving her permission to eat”. I would love to see behavior like that in game, and, after reading this article, I have hope that will be the case. Like this little kitty who is presumably thinking about how much she loves her person, but is also probably about to pounce the heck out of something. Maybe she’s thinking about how much she’d love to kill whatever she’s stalking!
The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs will be available on 10 November at 4am UTC, and is currently available for preorder.
